Are you getting salon blues already? 3 Hairstyles to learn from home

We’ve nearly completed week two of our isolation in the UK and the realisation we could be doing this for another month or more is starting to hit home.

Going to get your hair done often in a salon may be a ritual for most people. Whether it’s to get it coloured, cut or to have a bouncy blow-dry, you may be missing this part of your life that became the norm or that you were treating yourself to in the coming months.

Why not bring the salon to your home? Of course I don’t mean ringing your hairdresser to come round as this isn’t allowed under Government guidelines, however there is a way to get round it.

Teach yourself!

I wouldn’t recommend teaching yourself to colour or cut your hair or for a family member too (leave that to the professionals) but you can teach yourself some new hairstyles whilst you may have more free time and it can make yourself feel more put together.

  1. The salon fave a bouncy blow-dry

Although quite a hard one to grasp and get to look as good as a hairdresser does, it will be a fun one to learn.

All you need is a hairdryer, freshly washed hair, hair dividers and a round brush.

Hopefully most of you can access these already from your homes and you will already be one step closer to your salon.

There are a lot of hairdressers who are now out of business and are sharing tips and tricks on their social medias on how to style your hair from home so watch out for them. However, you can also learn by watching YouTube videos as well. Here’s one I found which is easy and simple to learn from.

If you are still finding this too difficult you can consider ordering hair tools which are sure to help you out in this crisis.

The Dyson HS01 Airwrap Complete Hair Styler. It is a pricy option to getting your hair done at home but it makes the job so much easier. If you’re just one of those people who are hopeless at attempting anything on your hair and have £450 to spend this will definitely be the investment for you and maybe even a long term saving for yourself after we are able to get back into a salon.

2. Learn how to french braid.

The key to any girls heart are four words “I can french braid”. You will instantly become besties.

Why not be that person who can do them? It is a tricker more fiddly hairstyle to get the hang of as you have to constantly be pulling your hair tight enough. But it’s one worth knowing how to do and will be a lifesaver style for these days at home to get all your hair off your face and again still look like you’ve made an effort.

Heres the video I used to learn how to do it a few years ago.

3. The final hair style is what I like to call the “not washed for over a week look”

Let’s be honest now we aren’t going out the house we can blag not washing our hair and giving it the breather it really needs. I mean who’s going to see our full grease over that camera meeting?

Why not even treat yourself to some good conditioning of your hair and place a hair mask on it or let it soak in some conditioner for an hour or two to really try and add some moisture into your locks.

This could just be the break your hair needs from washing it regularly and giving it the tlc it really deserves. It could even start to train your hair to not need to wash it every day or every other day and be able to get away with it.

Regularly conditioning your hair for a longer period will give you that glossy hair back.
